Hear What I Do, Watch What I Say: The Art of Conducting Non-English Speaking Ensembles

Clinic Synopsis:

Jerry Junkin will conduct an open rehearsal with the Sensoku Gakuen College of Music Blue Tie Wind Ensemble from Kawasaki, Japan. He will demonstrate how conducting technique and musical communication transcend the spoken language. (No Handout Available)

Jerry F. Junkin - Biographical Information

Beginning his 25th year as a University Distinguished Teaching Professor at The University of Texas at Austin, Jerry Junkin holds the Vincent R. and Jane D. DiNino Chair for the Director of Bands. He has served as music director and conductor of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia and is beginning his 20th season as artistic director and conductor of the Dallas Wind Symphony. He is an enthusiastic advocate of public school music education and his former students hold major positions around the world. Junkin is a well-known clinician and adjudicator and has conducted All-State bands and festivals in forty-eight states and on five continents. He spends his summers in residence at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan and makes regular guest appearances throughout the United States and abroad with such ensembles as the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and the Taipei Symphonic Winds.
