Percussion 101: Refresher

  • This is a percussion clinic for the non-percussionist music educator to refresh many of the percussion techniques needed to teach percussionists from the middle school level to high school level. This clinic focuses on concert percussion applications on how to teach students to play snare drum concert bass drum, crash cymbals, suspended cymbals, tambourine, wood block, triangle, castanets and a full array of the most widely used percussion accessories.

  • Jim Catalano is the Percussion Business Manager for The Ludwig Musser Percussion Company since 1983. Jim is also an active performing percussionist and clinician. Jim has conducted percussion clinics at Midwest Clinic, Texas Music Educators, American Band College, Pennsylvania Music Educators and at Conn-Selmer Institute. Mr. Catalano performs with The Truth in Jazz Big Band on drums, Elkhart Municipal Band on Percussion and leads his own jazz combo on Vibes. In addition, Jim conducts an interactive workshiop for kids titled, "Drums Around the World." Jim has a Masters of Music from The University of Notre Dame and BS in Music Ed from Indiana University of PA. Jim was the recipient of the 2010 Midwest Music Industry Award.
