Teachers of today encounter students with a variety of problems, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Anxiety, Oppositional Defiant Disorders, and Depression. Most teachers are not prepared to deal with disorders that are becoming more common in all situations, leading to frustration for everyone. Tips for recognizing the more common problems, and teaching these students effectively will enhance the student’s learning, and make the experience more rewarding for everyone involved.
Sandra Cox

Sandra Cox was the winner of the National Flute Association’s Convention Performer’s Competition in 2003 and 2004 and performed at the NFA Convention in Las Vegas and Nashville. An active performer in the Memphis area, she has performed with the Jackson Symphony, Germantown Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven Summer Theatre, Memphis Symphony, Delta Symphony, Memphis Civic Orchestra, and the Rome Festival Orchestra, as well as Venezuela, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and China. Recent performances were given in China, Texas, Hawaii, and Tennessee, where she gave the premiere of ‘Terezin Child-Songs’, commissioned for the 2011 Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony at the Tennessee Capital Building. In 2005, she served as Advertising Editor for The Flutist Quarterly, the official magazine for the NFA. Recent presentations at music conventions include Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, and Hawaii, Milwaukee, and China.
