Directors of the Shadow Ridge Middle School Honor Winds, a 2012 Midwest Clinic Performing Band, will discuss and demonstrate their curriculum for the successful beginner band or orchestra student. They will take you through their main beginner year milestones and how to motivate students to be successful developing fundamental skills. Utilizing the first ten minutes of class with the ideas presented can create a culture that yields highly advanced and motivated musicians by the end of their first year
Christopher Meredith

Chris Meredith is in his seventh year at Shadow Ridge Middle School. Meredith is a brass specialist from Lewisville, Texas and received his undergraduate training from the University of North Texas College of Music, Denton, TX. He is currently in the graduate program at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX.
The Shadow Ridge Middle School Band Program is the largest student group in Shadow Ridge MS. With a student body of 800, over 275 students participate in band ensembles including Beginner Band, Symphonic Band, Honor Winds, and Jazz Band. The Shadow Ridge Middle School Honor Winds performed at the 2012 Midwest Clinic, has been recognized as a National Winner in the National Wind Band Honors contest in 2010, 2011 & 2012 and most recently was awarded 3rd at the 2013 TMEA CC Honor Band Contest.
Meredith has been named a lifetime member of the PTA in 2011 and was selected as Shadow Ridge Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2012.
Alicia DeSoto is in her fifth year teaching at Shadow Ridge Middle School. DeSoto is a woodwind specialist from Sandy Hook, Connecticut, and received her undergraduate training from the University of North Texas College of Music. The Shadow Ridge Middle School Honor Winds performed at the 2012 Midwest Clinic and has been recognized as a National Winner in the National Wind Band Honors Program in 2010, 2011 & 2012. DeSoto was honored to be have been named a lifetime member of the PTA in 2013.
