Teaching for Independence

Clinic Synopsis:

“Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he'll eat forever.” (Chinese proverb.) In the early years of instrumental instruction, a carefully sequenced approach to the introduction of foundational skills and concepts may not provide instant gratification, but WILL result in motivated students who can take ownership of their learning in both individual and ensemble skills. Examples of application of the principles outlined will be given. Handouts for this sessions can be located at https://teachingforindependenceblog.wordpress.com/
