In this ever shifting job market, the ability to teach both band and choir has become a reality for many music educators. This interactive session will engage attendees in the best practices that bridge the gap between choral and wind band pedagogy. This session will also highlight instrumental techniques and exercises that can be translated in the choral rehearsal for the improvement of individual student vocalism.
Derrick Fox
- Biographical Information
Dr. Derrick Fox is an assistant professor of choral music education and choral conducting at the Ithaca College. He conducts the IC Chorus, the IC Madrigal Singers and teaches choral conducting and rehearsal techniques. He is an active adjudicator and clinician for regional and state choirs from the middle/junior high school to the collegiate level. He has worked with ensembles and presented sessions in Arkansas, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri, West Virginia, Texas, New York, Florida Michigan and the National ACDA convention. A native Arkansan, Dr. Fox taught choral music at MacArthur Junior High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and at Parkway North High School and Maryville University, in Saint Louis, Missouri. He holds degrees from Arkansas State University (B.M.E.), the University of Missouri – Columbia (M.M.) and Michigan State University (D.M.A.).
