Embracing Administrative Leadership in Music Education

Clinic Synopsis:

An administrator who is an effective leader is critical to the success of any music program. An administrator/leader in music education, whether this person is a supervisor, director of music or dean at a university, can make a significant and positive impact. Topics to be discussed include: Is The "Customer" (Students and Parents) Always Right?; Are Those Meetings That Important?; What Does It Take To Develop An Effective Music Program?; and Can You As The Administrator Survive on Reflected Glory?

John Clinton - Biographical Information

John Clinton recently retired as the dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Central Oklahoma and as the conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra. For thirty years he served as Director of Fine Arts for the Norman Oklahoma Public Schools. He has presented in-services and workshops for state and national conferences, the University of Oklahoma "Symposium '95: The Sociology of Music Education: Theoretical Underpinnings", The Midwest Clinic, internationally. He has conducted All-State and All-District orchestras in Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Washington, and Texas. His professional honors include the University of Oklahoma School of Music Distinguished Alumni Fellow, Oklahoma String Teacher of the Year, Governor’s Arts Award for Arts and Education, National Federation of State High School Associations Outstanding Music Educator and Oklahoma Music Educators Association "Administrator of the Year". His book "Embracing Administrative Leadership in Music Education" is published by GIA Publications
