Some 5 years ago I began keeping a journal of effective rehearsal strategies dealing with all facets of rehearsing and making music that seemed to always work. That was the genesis of Failsafe Fixes.
The format of the clinic is a rapid-fire presentation of specific fixes for a broad array of specific performance challenges. High energy and non-stop. The goal being to share between 50 and 60 concise rehearsal tactics that a director can place in his or her toolbox for immediate application.
Richard Floyd

Richard Floyd is in his 53rd year of professional involvement as a conductor, music educator and administrator. He has enjoyed a distinguished career at every level of wind band performance. In addition to his duties as Texas State Director of Music and Artistic Director of the Austin Symphonic Band he also serves as chair of the ABA Educational Projects Committee and as a member of the CBDNA Music Education Task Force. His bands have presented numerous concerts at state and national conferences including performances at the Midwest Clinic in 1989, 1997 and 2007. Floyd is a recognized authority on conducting, the art of wind band rehearsing, concert band repertoire, and music advocacy. He has toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe as a clinician, adjudicator and conductor. In 2011 he was awarded the prestigious Midwest International Clinic Medal of Honor for his distinguished and unique contributions to educational bands and orchestras.
