This is the jazz-band warmup you’ve been waiting for, and it’s right under your nose. Learn a step-by-step approach to using your concert/festival repertoire as an improv warmup that will get everyone in the band soloing. An aural learning method.

Rick Hirsch - Biographical Information

Rick Hirsch is a composer, arranger, saxophonist and jazz educator known for his thoughtful, good-humored approach. Hirsch apprenticed under master jazz composers Toshiko Akiyoshi and Bob Mintzer as a music copyist. He has received commissions from Yusef Lateef, the Penn State Blue Band, and dozens more. His works are published by Alfred, UNC Jazz Press, BRS Music and his own HirschMusic Publications. Hirsch is also a popular jazz educator who has taught at Penn State and Northern Illinois University. He has presented workshops and conducted festivals at over 100 schools, including numerous All-State and District Jazz Ensembles, and is a contributing author to Musicianship: Composing in Band and Orchestra (GIA). Hirsch is also an in-demand saxophonist. He has performed with Max Roach, Clark Terry, and Tito Puente; the Four Tops and the Temptations; the Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras; and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Hirsch lives with his family in State College, PA.
