Get Off the Crazy Train!—Tools for Psychological Wellbeing

Clinic Synopsis:

Eric & Lynette Wilson (husband/wife team, representing educator and therapist perspectives) will present strategies to improve one’s personal and professional life. Topics discussed to improve one’s teaching, conducting, and leadership are: handling stressors of the profession, becoming your authentic & balanced self, and dealing with vulnerability, criticism, and perfectionism.

Eric Wilson - Biographical Information

J. Eric Wilson, Professor of Ensembles and Conducting, has been Director of Bands at Baylor University since 2006. He provides administrative leadership for all aspects of the band program, conducts the Wind Ensemble, and teaches and oversees the undergraduate and graduate conducting curriculum. Dr. Wilson is Past-President of the Big 12 Band Directors Association and current President of the CBDNA Southwestern Division. He has been elected into Phi Beta Mu and the American Bandmasters Association, and honored as Outstanding Professor for Tenured Teaching by Baylor University in 2014. Dr. Wilson is in demand as a conducting clinician, adjudicator, and performing artist. As a conductor, he has directed numerous regional honor bands and conducted his own groups at conventions including TMEA, CBDNA, and The Midwest Clinic. He was a featured contributor in the 2015 Meredith Music publication, Rehearsing the Band, Volume 2. Prior to joining the Baylor faculty, he served twelve years on the faculty of Abilene Christian University. Dr. Wilson holds both the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Abilene Christian University. Prior to his university appointments, Dr. Wilson taught in the Texas public school system. When not teaching and performing, Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with his wife, Lynette, and their four children, Blake, Meredith, Luke, and Caleb.

Lynette Wilson - Biographical Information

Lynette Wilson is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from Waco, Texas. In her private practice, OakSpring Counseling, Lynette works with individuals, couples, and families in the counseling setting. Over the last several years, in addition to having offered services within her local church, Lynette has worked part-time providing family training and counseling for an addiction treatment center near Waco and as a part-time counselor in the Baylor University Counseling Center. Lynette holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, both from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Lynette was raised in the San Antonio, Texas area during her childhood. She has been married for 28 years to Dr. Eric Wilson, currently in his eleventh year as Director of Bands at Baylor University. Beginning in 2015, Lynette and Eric melded their interests and expertise in the counseling and music fields to present on multiple occasions the clinic, “Get Off the Crazy Train!—Tools for Psychological Wellbeing.” Lynette and Eric are the parents of 4 children ranging in age from 23 to 13.
