Clarinet Basics in 60 Minutes

Clinic Synopsis:

This interactive clinic will offer helpful tips on how to improve your clarinet section through the demonstration of innovative exercises, addressing common clarinet fundamental issues pertaining to tone, technique, articulation and intonation. This session will be presented in collaboration with the Charleston County School of the Arts Clarinet Choir led by Suzanne Reed.

Cecilia Kang - Biographical Information

Clarinetist Cecilia Kang is quickly garnering international recognition as a dynamic artist-teacher. National winner of the Canadian Music Competition and the second prize winner of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Standard Life Competition, she has also received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects, the Kingsway Foundation, and the Hendrickson Foundation. As a performer, she has collaborated with the St. Lawrence String Quartet, the Copeland String Quartet and members of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Danish Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. She has also appeared at Thy Chamber Music Festival (Denmark), IMPULS Contemporary Music Festival (Austria), Castleton Music Festival (USA), Collingwood Music Festival (Canada), and Banff Centre (Canada). A passionate educator, Dr. Kang has presented at conferences hosted by various Music Educators Associations across the US, the College Music Society, the International Clarinet Associations’ ClarinetFest and the China International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival. Dr. Kang earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. Dr. Kang currently serves on faculty at Furman University in South Carolina and she has previously taught at North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND), Grumo Music Festival (Italy), Luzerne Music Center (NY) and Bay View Music Festival (MI).
