Sequential Vibrato Instruction in the String Classroom

  • This session focuses on small daily steps in teaching and implementing a warm vibrato sound to your orchestra. Starting with determining vibrato readiness, the first steps towards developing correct left hand and arm techniques will be demonstrated. Daily exercises for classroom use will be introduced and a discussion about potential literature for incorporating vibrato will be included. A special segment will be dedicated to troubleshooting!

  • Jeremy Woolstenhulme currently serves as the orchestra director at Hyde Park Middle School in the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, Nevada where he teaches and conducts seven orchestras daily. His award-winning orchestras have performed at the Midwest Clinic, and the ASTA National Conference, where in 2015, his orchestra earned 1st place honors in the middle school division. Mr. Woolstenhulme has also traveled with his orchestras to major cities around the U.S. and Europe. He is also the conductor of the Las Vegas Youth Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Woolstenhulme is a commissioned and published composer with works accepted onto festival repertoire lists and the J.W. Pepper Editors' Choice Selections lists. He is co-author of the highly acclaimed string method, "String Basics." His focus is to write for middle and high school orchestras where he composes to teach, challenge, and inspire. In addition, Woolstenhulme has served as clinician and conductor throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and the People's Republic of China. The topics throughout his sessions mirror his remarkable ability to train young players to play with accuracy and musicianship, to appreciate and understand the nuances of all types of literature, and to perform at the highest level possible. As professional cellist, Mr. Woolstenhulme is a member of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and he frequently performs as a freelance musician throughout Las Vegas. He is the founder, coordinator, and instructor of the Las Vegas String Workshop, an annual innovative summer day camp. Mr. Woolstenhulme received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Brigham Young University and a Master of Arts degree in cello performance from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
