As subject matter experts in our field, music teachers know intuitively what the most important skills are that students must master to create outstanding performance. This clinic is designed to demonstrate a method for aligning learning goals for performance with school or district learning goals with the result being improved student performance. Rubrics to assess the competency of the student in achieving the goals will be presented.
Thomas Zugger

Praised for his “beautiful resonate tone” and “outstanding flexibility” (ITA Journal), Dr. Thomas W Zugger has enjoyed an international career as a performer, educator and composer. Zugger is currently Chair of Instrumental Music and Professor of Trombone and Euphonium at the Capital University in Columbus, OH. He spends his summers teaching at the International Music Camp in North Dakota. Prior to his appointment at Capital, he taught in the Walled Lake, MI public schools.
He is also currently principal trombone in the Newark/Granville Symphony as well as appearing with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Ashland Symphony, and backing numerous performers such as Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, and the Moody Blues. His CD: Dances and Dreams-Recital Music for Trombone was released on the MARK record label. He has presented at the Midwest Clinic and over 30 state NAfME conferences. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Ohio State University.
