Learn to Think “Principal” and Increase Your Professional Credibility and Effectiveness

Clinic Synopsis:

Uncover how administrators stay focused on teacher effectiveness, even with all their other responsibilities. Participants will appraise their own credibility in and around the school community and unpack the components of “professional capital.” Learn solicitor endorsed steps to solve problems and make decisions confidently. Concentrate more on student learning through collaboration and research while transforming your program’s visibility and achievements.

Scott Koter - Biographical Information

Scott Koter retired as Assistant Superintendent for the Kiski Area School District in Vandergrift, Pa. and previously served as Director of Secondary Education, Principal, and Director of Bands in the same district beginning in 1982. As band director, his ensembles received numerous honors including appearances at the Midwest Clinic, MENC, IAJE and PMEA conventions as well as numerous state and regional titles being named Bands of America Grand National Class Champions two times.  Scott received citations for teaching excellence from PMEA, NBA, IAJE, Duquesne University, St.Vincent College and California University of PA. During Scott’s administrative tenure, Kiski Area SD had four elementary schools named Title I Schools with Distinction and one school awarded a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Kiski Area HS was named to the AP Honor Roll and was selected as a Grammy Signature School. The district was named a Best Community in Music by the NAMM Foundation three times. Kiski Area SD consistently ranks as one of the top 10 “Overachieving” School Districts in Pennsylvania based on achievement of economically disadvantaged students on standardized exams. Scott served as Program Coordinator for The Cavaliers of Rosemont, IL from 1999-2015 winning five DCI world titles. He presently serves in that same capacity for the 2018 World Champion, Santa Clara Vanguard of Santa Clara, CA. Additionally, he served as Percussion Caption Chairman for Drum Corps International, as member of the DCI Task Force and the Bands of America Advisory Board. Scott serves as a Creative Consultant for Fannin Musical Productions and as an Education Specialist for Innovative Percussion Inc. He guest conducts, leads professional development sessions, and adjudicates contests and festivals worldwide. Scott was inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame in 2015.
