In-Tone and In-Tune: Improving Your Low Brass Sound From Beginning Band Through High School

Clinic Synopsis:

The Clinic will focus on developing the sound and intonation of the low brass sections in beginning band through high school. The clinicians will offer insight and exercises to develop the overall sound and intonation your low brass players.

Justin Cook - Biographical Information

Justin Cook is the Assistant Professor of Trombone at the University of Central Arkansas where he teaches studio trombone, trombone choir, brass ensembles, and low brass methods. Prior to his appointment at UCA, Dr. Cook was on the faculties of Tarleton State University, Eastfield College, and the University of North Texas. In addition to his college teaching, Justin has been on staff at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan, Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in Rockford, Illinois, and is currently the Festival Manager for the International Trombone Festival. Justin Cook holds a Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Trombone Performance degree from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from Northern Arizona University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas.  Equally at home as an educator and performer, the UCA trombone studio has seen tremendous success since Dr. Cook’s arrival. The studio has tripled in size and now features two trombone choirs: The BearBones Trombone Choir, and the Natural Slides Trombone Ensemble. The trombone choirs have performed at the American Trombone Workshop in Washington D.C., the Big 12 Trombone Conference at Texas Tech University, the Arkansas Music Educator’s Conference, the Texas State Trombone Symposium, the 2018 International Trombone Festival at the University of Iowa and were featured performers at the 2018 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL. Dr. Cook’s students have graduated and been accepted to some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Dr. Ryan Robinson - Biographical Information

Dr. Robinson joined the faculty of the Oklahoma State University Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music in 2018. He is currently the Principal Tuba of the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) and Principal Tuba of the Lawton Philharmonic. Dr. Robinson also serves as host of the Buffet Crampon USA Tuba Euphonium Academy. Prior to his appointment at OSU, Dr. Robinson held teaching positions at Oklahoma City University, Tarleton State University, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. His degrees are from the University of North Texas (BM, DMA) and Northwestern University (MM). Dr. Robinson has been invited to perform at several international competitions, festivals, and conferences including the Brass im Frankenwald course and festival at Haus Marteau, Lichtenberg, Germany; Ticino Musica Festival in Lugano, Switzerland; the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival; the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute; and numerous International Tuba Euphonium Conferences.  Dr. Robinson enjoys a busy and diverse career as a professional tubist. As a chamber musician, he has performed with the faculty quintets of Oklahoma City University, the University of North Texas, and Tarleton State University. Additionally, he is a founding member of the Founders Tuba Euphonium Quartet, Frontier Brass Band (OK), Bel Canto Brass Quintet, the Highland Brass Quintet, and the Fantasticos Tuba Euphonium Quartet. As an orchestral tubist, he has performed with the Houston Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Symphony, Fort Smith Symphony (AR), Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Lawton Philharmonic (OK), Las Colinas Symphony (TX), Allen Philharmonic (TX), and the Blue Lake Festival Band (MI). His professional affiliations include the International Tuba Euphonium Association, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and the American Federation of Musicians.  Dr. Robinson is a B&S Artist.
