10 Common Mistakes Made at Assessments and How To Avoid Them

Clinic Synopsis:

This presentation will highlight ten of the most common missteps that cause ensembles to fall short of their potential in adjudications. Based on over 20 years experience as an adjudicator throughout the US and Canada the presenter will discuss these common mistakes made at Assessments and how to avoid them, thereby helping directors enhance the overall performance of their ensembles.

Sally Wagner - Biographical Information

Sally S. Wagner recently retired after 40 years of public school teaching, 34 as Director of Bands at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, where she conducted four concert bands, Jazz Band, and oversaw the Dixieland Combo, Clarinet Choir, Woodwind Quintet and Brass Quintet. During her years at the school, her bands earned a reputation for superior musicianship and performance standards, and were recognized as outstanding by respected adjudicators at local, national and international music festivals. Throughout her career she received over two dozen awards for teaching excellence. She remains active as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor. She is the author of "The Pursuit of Excellence: A Band Director's Guide to Success" and the recently published "The Pursuit of Perfection: Creative Strategies for Today's Music Director". She is also co-author, with David Fedderly, of "Brass Instruments: Purchasing, Maintenance, Troubleshooting and More" (all Meredith Music Publications).
