Team Teaching in the Bandroom: Working Together to Sound Better

Clinic Synopsis:

Team teaching in an ensemble setting can be challenging to coordinate, but when done well, it can maximize your rehearsal time, improve student achievement, and make your job easier! The clinicians will present ideas for grouping students, dividing responsibilities, team planning, and rehearsal procedures that will allow your students to benefit from the varied expertise of multiple teachers.

Evan Burton - Biographical Information

Evan Burton is in his eighteenth year as band director at Page Middle School in Franklin, TN. The Page Middle School Band has achieved consistent superior ratings at Concert Performance Assessment and was the recipient of the ASBDA Award of Distinction in Concert Performance in 2018. Many Page students are selected for membership each year in the Tennessee Midstate Bands, Midstate Jazz Band, and the Williamson County Honors Band. Evan holds a Master of Music Education degree from Anderson University and is a National Board Certified Teacher. He is a member of MTSBOA, NAfME, TMEA, and ASBDA.

Katherine Aydelott - Biographical Information

Katherine Aydelott currently works with the Page Middle School Band as a supplemental section instructor. While she previously served as assistant band director at Page Middle School, the Page Middle School Band performed for the Tennessee Music Education Association State Concert Festival and received the ASBDA Award of Distinction in Concert Performance. She received her Masters of Music in Musicology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2020 and her Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2015.

Carol Strayer - Biographical Information

Carol G. Strayer has been director of the Page Middle School Band since 2012. Before moving to Tennessee, her Jazz Band at Eli Whitney Elementary School in Enfield, CT received the Junior Scholastic Magazine Award for Outstanding Jazz Program and performed at the Eastern Connecticut Music Educators Workshop. Her Valleyview Middle School Concert Band performed for the New Jersey Music Educator’s Convention with guest conductor Andrew Balent. She holds a Master of Music degree from Central Connecticut State University. Her professional affiliations include MTSBOA, NAfME, TMEA, ASBDA, and ITEA.
