Be Successful in Your Next Interview

Clinic Synopsis:

This clinic will prepare attendees to effectively represent their best self through the entire interview journey; from the application process to the thank you note. It will provide insight from the interviewer’s perspective, identifying the true objectives of the questions being asked. Attendees will leave with creative ways to capture their passion for music education and articulate it with their finest “What, How, and Whys” in every response.

Michael Luley - Biographical Information

Michael Luley has been Director of Bands at Lake Braddock Secondary School since 2011 and currently serves as the Performing Arts Department Chair. He directs three high school ensembles as well as the marching band. Under his direction, the Lake Braddock Symphonic Band performed a joint concert in 2019 with West Virginia University’s Wind Symphony in Morgantown, WV, the 2015 Virginia Music Educators Conference, the 2015 Music For All National Concert Band Festival, and was invited to perform again in 2020. The Lake Braddock Band was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Program of Excellence Award in 2016 from the NBA and in 2017 the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Flag of Honor. Previously, as Associate Director at Lake Braddock, Mr. Luley’s jazz ensemble performed twice at Blues Alley, in Washington, D.C. and performed on tour in Beijing, China with the Lake Braddock Symphonic Band in 2010. Before coming to Lake Braddock, Mr. Luley taught band in North Carolina, Mississippi, and Falls Church, Virginia. He holds the BME degree from West Virginia University and the MME degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Luley is a member of several professional organizations. He served as the Virginia State Representative for the NBA for five years, VBODA District 11 Instrumental Representative for four years, and currently chairs the VBODA Concert Assessment Committee. Mr. Luley has received three Citations of Excellence from the NBA and has enjoyed opportunities directing Honor Bands in Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
