Angela Ammerman - Biographical Information

Angela Ammerman, referred to by the Washington Post as a “music teacher prodigy,” has dedicated much of her career to providing access to quality education for underserved populations of children including the beginnings of a strings program at a children’s home in Thailand. Dr. Ammerman is in high demand as a clinician and guest conductor and just conducted All State Orchestras in Tennessee, California, and Georgia. Ammerman completed her first book: The Music Teacher’s Guide to Engaging English Language Learners published by Meredith Music and GIA. The next book in the series: The Music Teacher’s Guide to Recruitment and Retention, was just released this Fall! Ammerman has been honored with many teaching awards including the Outstanding Advisor of the Year at the University of Tennessee at Martin, Fairfax County Public Schools' "Top Teacher" in 2017, and the Virginia House of Delegates in 2016. In 2016, Dr. Ammerman was named the Virginia Orchestra Director of the Year, a finalist for the Fairfax County Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year, and Washington Post Teacher of the Year finalist. Currently living in Virginia with her supportive husband and toddler violinist, Ammerman works at George Mason University where she supervises student teachers and teaches String Methods, Lab Orchestra, and Aural Skills. Ammerman is the President of the Virginia String Teachers Association and is in awe of the resilience and dedication of school music educators across the United States and is honored to have the opportunity to work with their students.

Annamarie Bollino - Biographical Information

Annamarie Bollino serves as the Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts for Stafford County Public Schools, where she works with one hundred and twenty music, visual arts, and theatre arts teachers while overseeing all aspects of the arts programs. Under her leadership, Stafford County Public Schools has been named a Best Community for Music Education Award Winner by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Annamarie is also the Chair of the NAfME Music Program Leaders Council and is the Immediate Past-President of the Virginia Music Educators Association

Angela Harman - Biographical Information

Angela Harman has a track record of substantially increasing enrollment in her orchestra programs. While teaching at Spanish Fork Junior High, she grew the program by over 440%. She currently teaches orchestra Maple Grove Middle School in Mapleton, Utah where she more than doubled the program from 140 to 290 in just one year. Angela frequently seeks out special opportunities for her students. In 2015, her program was selected for "The World We All Deserve Through Music," where renowned Time for Three bassist Ranaan Meyer composed a piece for the Spanish Fork Orchestra and visited in-person to do a workshop with students. The Spanish Fork Junior High orchestra won the Give A Note Foundation/Radio Disney Music In Our Schools tour in 2016, which included an Ardy and a grant. Representatives from the Disney Channel visited Angela’s classroom and filmed a 1-minute commercial promoting music education which aired on the Disney channel in the Summer of 2016.

Christopher Vaughn - Biographical Information

Who is Mr. Chris Vaughn? The Harpeth Middle School Band Director, in his third Year at HMS, and starting his 14th year of teaching band! In 2021-2022, he was named HMS Teacher of the Year. Mr. Vaughn's goals include: every child matters inside and outside the Band Room, and at HMS, we want students to be involved in an activity to find a hidden talent they didn't know they had. I am VERY passionate about teaching band, but I care more about your child becoming a better person and I use music as a way to reach children!

John Kilkenny - Biographical Information

John Kilkenny enjoys a unique career as a performer, conductor, and artistic administrator. Hailed as a “particularly fine timpanist” by the Washington Post, he leads a dynamic, 21st-century musical career that includes regular orchestral, solo, and chamber music performances across the country and around the world. Over a nearly twenty-year career, he has had the honor of being regularly engaged by every leading Washington DC performing arts organization, from the National Symphony to the Washington Bach Consort. He tours regularly, presenting solo recitals, concerto performances, and master classes at major universities and conservatories throughout the United States and worldwide. For 15 years (2008-2022), John was the Director of Percussion Studies at George Mason University, leading that program to new heights of international acclaim. In 2018 he was appointed General Director of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. In March of 2022, he began his tenure as Executive Director of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. He is proudly sponsored by Zildjian/Vic Firth, Remo percussion products, and Adams/Pearl percussion.

BettyAnne Gottlieb - Biographical Information

BettyAnne Gottlieb is Associate Professor and Division Head of Music Education at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Dr. Gottlieb teaches courses focused on string pedagogy, teacher preparation, and technology integration. Her research interests include democratic learning environments, healthy musicianship, and the nature and meaning of music for beginning instrumentalists. In 2014, she co-founded the Cincinnati New Horizons Orchestra (NHO) – a program that provides beginning and intermediate string instruction for adults in a group setting. Starting with 12 intrepid beginning string players, the Cincinnati NHO has grown to over 40 members and three levels of ensembles in which we make no mistakes, just artistic interpretations. In addition to working with these inspiring musicians, Dr. Gottlieb is an active orchestral musician, Suzuki teacher, and clinician and has held leadership positions in the American String Teachers Association, the Ohio Music Education Association, and the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Joseph Frye - Biographical Information

Joseph Frye is the Professor of Trombone at the University of Tennessee at Martin, a position he has held since 2011. In addition to directing the trombone studio and teaching applied trombone lessons, he also teaches courses in music technology, orchestration, pedagogy, coaches brass chamber ensembles, and directs the UTM Trombone Choir. He studied trombone with Don Hough at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and John Drew at The Florida State University, both of whom are recipients of the International Trombone Association’s Neill Humfeld Award, given for excellence in trombone teaching. Dr. Frye is the Principal Trombone of The Paducah Symphony Orchestra and also performs regularly with clarinetist Christa Frye as a member of Duo Atypique. Before his tenure with the PSO, Joseph was Principal Trombone with the West Texas Symphony, second trombone with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and appeared with the Albany, Knoxville, and Oak Ridge symphony orchestras. He is a performing artist for Thein Brass.

Tiffany Barton - Biographical Information

Born in Jackson, TN, Tiffany Barton moved to Hendersonville, TN at six months of age with her family. A product of the excellent music education offered starting in junior high though Sumner County Schools, she went on to receive her Bachelors of Music in Music Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1993. Tiffany continued her education while teaching for the Dyer County school system by getting her Masters of Teaching in Gifted Education from UTM. Her thesis was entitled, “The Relationship Between Self-Esteem and Scholastic Aptitude and Attitude of Gifted Students.”

Laura Black - Biographical Information

Laura Black graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 2007 with a degree in music education. She is currently pursuing her Master in Music Education at UNC-Greensboro, with a projected graduation in the summer of 2023. Laura has completed Levels 1 and 2 of Orff-Schulwerk and is excited about completing her certification with Level 3 soon! Laura is in her 16th year of teaching. In her first four years of teaching middle school orchestra, her program grew from 35 to over 140 musicians; her students were active in All-County orchestras, Eastern District orchestras, and the NC Music Performance Adjudication, where they consistently earned ‘Excellent’ and ‘Superior’ ratings. While her first nine years of teaching were spent in middle school orchestra, she made the jump to elementary general music and has not looked back! She currently teaches at Rocky Point Elementary in Rocky Point, NC, teaching preschool through 5th grade. While at Rocky Point, Laura has received over $10,000 in grants and donations to purchase new instruments and fund educational STEAM projects. Most notably, she was one of the recipients of Music and Arts “Be a Part of the Music” grant for 2022, which purchased violins for her growing after-school Strings Club. In her free time, she enjoys sewing, playing the violin, and raising her four beautiful children with her amazing husband, Casey.
