The Well-rounded Musician

Clinic Synopsis:

This clinic will explore the development of well-rounded student musicians through ten skills for musician development. These skills will be identified and defined. By understanding and using these skills for rehearsal planning and preparation, our students will be better trained and prepared for performances and assessments. The clinic will discuss three rehearsal pathways that all students should train in.

Ann Smith - Biographical Information

Ann G. Smith, born in Troy, Ohio, began playing the violin in the seventh grade. In addition to playing in her high school orchestra, she was also a member of the school band. After graduating from high school, Smith pursued her musical career at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. In 2010,  Ann completed her work on her Master of Music Education and Performance Certificate in Conducting under the direction of Dr. Clifton Evans. Ann is in her ninth year as Director of Orchestras at Plano East Senior High School. Previous positions include: Director of Orchestras at Flower Mound High School, Director of Orchestras Paschal High School, and Assistant Orchestra Director Martin High School. Since beginning her career in 1994, her orchestras have earned UIL “Sweepstakes” Ratings, Best in Class Awards at National Festival, TMEA Honor Orchestra Finalist, String and Full Orchestra, and performed at The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference, 2013. Ann holds memberships in Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Mu Omicron. She has served as region orchestra chair, region orchestra secretary, region vice-president, UIL PML New Music Selection Committee (chair), TMAA Committee on Standards of Adjudication and Performance Practices and as the TMEA Orchestra Division Vice-President.
