Expanding Experiences in Orchestra: DAWs, Amps, Pedals, and More

Clinic Synopsis:

The traditional orchestra classroom is in need of modernization in terms of the pedagogies employed, experiences offered, and technologies implemented. This session will explore a myriad of activities and lesson/project ideas that expand the scope of musicianship experiences students can engage in - including jamming, improvising, looping, composing, producing, and recording via the use of DAWs, amps, FX pedals, and more.

Leo Park - Biographical Information

Leo Park is a 20+ year music educator, currently serving as director of orchestras at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. Leo has served on faculty as adjunct professor teaching strings methods and techniques at Northeastern Illinois University and North Park University, and secondary general music methods at VanderCook College of Music. Additionally, Leo has served as Arts Instruction Specialist for the Chicago Public Schools, District 1 Orchestra Representative for the Illinois Music Education Association, member of the Ingenuity ArtsEd Advisory Council, and currently serves as content editor for the Illinois American String Teachers Association’s publication, The Scroll; as a member of the American String Teachers Association Eclectic Styles national committee, and as an clinician for Eastman Strings. Leo is the recipient of the 2018 Illinois Asian Pacific American Commitment in Education Award and 2016 Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching Award.
