Setting the Table: Addressing the Teacher Shortage, Teacher Licensure Examinations, and Fostering Conditions for Success

Clinic Synopsis:

The focus of this session is the impact of teacher licensure examinations on the growing music teacher shortage and the continued lack of diversity of certified music educators across the nation. The discussion will address five critical areas or pillars: Recruitment & Retention, Diagnostics, Curriculum & Instruction, Faculty Competence, and Test Awareness & Preparation. This is an interactive session.

Tomisha Price-Brock - Biographical Information

An accomplished educator, Dr. Tomisha Price-Brock has led superior instrumental and vocal ensembles on the public school level and in higher education in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Washington, and Nevada. A native of Carrollton, Virginia, she received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Virginia State University in 2005, a Master of Music Education degree from Norfolk State University in 2011, and has completed additional coursework at Capella University, Southern University of Utah, and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Dr. Brock received her Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2020.Dr. Brock is the Director of University Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Johnson C. Smith University. She is also the current President of the HBCU National Band and Orchestra Directors’ Consortium, and the Founder/Executive Director of Prodigious Music Concepts, LLC, The HBCU Recruitment Center, and the Fuel Your Dreams Foundation, Inc.
