Clinic Synopsis:

In this presentation, we aim to delve into the intersection of language skills and poverty, examining the challenges that arise, and offer effective strategies to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for English language learners. Our focus will be on empowering these learners to strengthen their language abilities and apply them to music literacy with confidence and proficiency.

Crystal Hoisager - Biographical Information

Crystal Hoisager is currently serving her second year as the Head Band Director at Santa Fe Middle School within the Cleveland Independent School District, located in Cleveland, Texas. Before joining Santa Fe Middle School, she held positions as a band director in Dayton Independent School District (Dayton, Texas), Sheldon Independent School District (Houston, Texas), and Galena Park Independent School District (Houston, Texas). In addition to her roles within the school districts, Mrs. Hoisager actively participates in professional organizations. She is a proud member of Women Band Directors International and currently holds the position of president for the Texas Chapter. Furthermore, she is affiliated with prominent associations such as the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Adjudicator's Association.

Brice Harkness - Biographical Information

Brice Harkness currently holds the position of Associate Band Director at Santa Fe Middle School within the Cleveland Independent School District, located in Cleveland, Texas. Before assuming this role, he served as an Assistant Band Director within the Galena Park Independent School District and the Sheldon Independent School District, both situated in Houston, Texas. Brice Harkness maintains active membership in esteemed professional organizations, including the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association.

Macedonio Mucino - Biographical Information

Max Muciño is the assistant director of bands and director of the jazz band at Santa Fe Middle School in Cleveland Texas. Previously, Mr. Muciño worked in Nacogdoches ISD as the head director for McMichael Middle School’s 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Muciño has also served as adjunct professor of instrumental music at Stephen F. Austin State University and Navarro College. In addition to these appointments, he maintains a private studio and an active schedule as a guest artist, clinician, and soloist. Mr. Muciño earned his degrees from Weatherford College (A.A.),Texas Wesleyan University (B.A.), and Stephen F. Austin State University (M.M.). His primary teachers include Dr. Jacob Walburn, Dr. Jerome Biershenk, Ron Puckett, Larry Harrison, and Beth Losos. Mr. Muciño also received coaching and mentorship from Dr. Charles “Chuck” Tumlinson, Joel Adair, Cal Lewiston, Dutch Ode, Vurl Bland, and Lou Carfa. Mr Muciño participated with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corp as a trumpet player during the 2009, and 2011 seasons.. He is excited to rejoin his friends and colleagues for his second year as a member of the brass education team. In his leisure time, Max enjoys riding motorcycles and playing video games with his daughter.
