Contest and concert performances can be a time for great celebration and relief, but they can also be frustrating and painful when the performance or rating doesn't match our expectations. Stephenson will discuss ways to move forward from disappointing contests, evaluations, or concert performances and grow as an educator and musician.
David Stephenson

David Stephenson is the Director of Bands and Fine Arts Coordinator for Alamo Heights Independent School District in San Antonio, TX. Before coming to Alamo Heights, Mr. Stephenson worked in the Smithson Valley Band program for 12 years where he most recently served as the Director of Bands. He began his teaching career at John H. Wood Middle School in North East ISD.
Mr. Stephenson earned his Bachelor of Music from Texas Tech University in 1998 where he also served as the Drum Major of the Goin' Band from Raiderland. In 2008, Mr. Stephenson received a Master's of Education in Administration from Sam Houston State University. Mr. Stephenson's wife, Melissa French-Stephenson, is a choir director at Bradley Middle School in North East ISD. They have two boys, James who is a music education major at the University of Houston and Sam who is a Junior at MacArthur High School. Mr. Stephenson is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Fine Arts Administrators, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Phi Beta Mu.
