Katie O'Hara LaBrie
- Biographical Information
Katie O’Hara LaBrie is a composer, conductor, clinician, and cellist from Northern Virginia and is the Orchestra Editor for Randall Standridge Music Publications. An educator at heart, Mrs. LaBrie spent the first 15 years of her career teaching orchestra in Fairfax County, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from St. Olaf College, where she studied under Steven Amundson, and Masters of Music in Instrumental Conducting from George Mason University, where she studied with Anthony Maiello.
Mrs. LaBrie’s compositions for string orchestra and concert band have received many accolades including frequent selection as J.W. Pepper Editor’s Choice, as well as performances at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Directors Clinic and American String Teachers Association Conference. In 2022, she was honored as one of Yamaha’s “40 Under 40,” for her action, courage, creativity, and commitment to growth in the music education field. She is a frequent guest conductor and adjudicator for all-state and regional events and enjoys visiting schools as a guest clinician. She is passionate about sharing music with others and teaching students how to practice with purpose.
Mrs. LaBrie is the founding conductor of the Fairfax Chamber Players, and co-creator of “the Big IDEA” practice method. She lives in Fairfax, VA with her husband Joe, who is a middle school band director, and their budding musician, Liam. For more visit www.katieoharalabrie.com
Anne Marie Patterson - Biographical Information
Anne Marie Patterson is the Orchestra Director at Robert Frost Middle School in Fairfax, VA. She has been a private teacher and freelance violinist in the Washington, DC area for over 25 years, and has taught all levels of school orchestra in Charles County, MD. She directed the Charles County Youth Orchestra and Encore Strings and is the recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Music Teacher Award from the Maryland Music Educators Association.
Anne Marie received Master’s Degrees in both Music Education and Music Performance from Florida State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Washington and Lee University, where she graduated with honors. She has served as President of the MD/DC Chapter of the American String Teachers Association, and is a frequent presenter at the national ASTA conference. She has also presented sessions at The Midwest Clinic, NAfME, and conferences in Virginia, Maryland and Utah.
Anne Marie is the author of Basic String Technique: A Practical Guide to String Instruction, published by Kendor Music, and a contributing author of Rehearsing the Middle School Orchestra by Sandy Goldie. She is a co-author of Getting In Gear: Fundamental Warm-ups for String Orchestra, published by Randall Standridge.
Deborah Baker Monday - Biographical Information
Deborah Baker Monday is a retired string educator with 34 years of experience. She received her B.M.E. Magna Cum Laude from Florida State University with an emphasis in string education and an M.M. in composition at the University of Alabama. She continued her studies in composition at Louisiana State University where she performed with the LSU Symphony Orchestra. She has studied theory and composition with Harold Schiffman, John Boda, Frederic Goossen, Paul Hedwall, & Dino Constantinides. Ms. Monday continued to be an active bass performer when she was hired as a low string specialist in the Logan City Orchestra program in Utah.
Ms. Monday has over 175 original and arranged works with 5 publishers. Many have been honored as J.W. Pepper Editor’s Choice selections & appear on many state required music lists for festivals and contests. She has received awards for Outstanding Elementary Educator and Superior Accomplishment from UtahASTA and UtahMEA respectively. In 2006 & 2011, Ms. Monday was the winner of the UtahASTA Composition Contest.
Ms. Monday has presented at many state music conferences throughout the USA, as well as numerous national ASTA conferences, The Midwest Clinic, & the Ohio State String Teacher Workshop. She is active as a clinician, guest conductor & adjudicator and has numerous commissions for her work. Her studies in composition & experience in string teaching combine to make her one of the leading contributors to the repertoire for young string players.
