Music is a universal language, yet students with special needs often lack access to musical events designed for self-expression in a judgment-free, sensory-safe environment. Sensory-Friendly Concerts provide an opportunity to foster inclusivity by allowing students to take an active role in building a more equitable school community. These events encourage meaningful interactions between students of all abilities, strengthening connections across your district.

Evan Schroeder is in his 10th year teaching band, with 6 of those years spent at Zionsville Middle School. As the lead teacher for 6th grade band, he also co-directs Rock Band and Jazz Ensemble alongside his fellow educators. Before joining ZMS, Evan built a successful band, choir, and general music program at Seton Catholic in his hometown of Richmond, Indiana.
Evan’s musical journey began at Butler University, where he balanced his studies with service as a United States Navy reservist for four years. Upon graduating, he returned to Richmond to begin his teaching career. In 2018, he was activated by the Navy and deployed to the Middle East for a year, during which he earned his Master’s in Educational Administration and Supervision. After serving for 8 years, Evan now focuses on his passion for teaching and his family life as a husband and dad of two.
In addition to his work at ZMS, Evan is an active musician in the Indianapolis area, frequently playing piano for local Catholic churches and performing with several local bands.
Evan is also dedicated to making music accessible to all students. He recently completed his third year hosting the Sensory-Friendly Concert at Zionsville Middle School, an event designed to provide a welcoming concert experience for those with sensory sensitivities. In January 2025, he invited educators from other districts to attend, helping to inspire similar concerts in schools across the region.
