Meet Them Where They Are: Tiered Teaching Strategies for the Concert Band

Clinic Synopsis:

Utilizing 30 years of experience from teaching high school band, Mrs. Hamilton will provide proven strategies to elevate band students of any level. Featuring demonstration videos by three leveled bands from Red Mountain HS (Mesa AZ), this clinic explores a tiered approach to rehearsal techniques with practical applications for rehearsals. A free set of her developing band warm-ups will also be provided.

Jennifer Hamilton - Biographical Information

A prominent conductor and clinician, Jennifer Hamilton conducts honor bands throughout Arizona and the United States, and has served as a guest conductor for professional ensembles including the Arizona Wind Symphony and the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. An active clinician, she presents to music educators at conferences and school districts on a wealth of topics. She is an active adjudicator, frequently serving on concert and marching band panels. Mrs. Hamilton has been the Director of Bands at Red Mountain High School (Mesa, AZ) since 2017. Under her direction, the Red Mountain band has become a prominent program of distinction, and has been a featured ensemble at the AMEA Conference. Previously, she was the Band and Orchestra Director at Coconino High School (Flagstaff, AZ) from 2003 – 2017, Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Hamilton taught high school bands in Georgia and Florida for six years. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, she received a Bachelor of Music Education from The University of Georgia and a Master of Music in Conducting from The University of Kentucky. Mrs. Hamilton is actively involved in professional leadership at the state and national levels, serving on the AMEA board for eight years including President (2015-2017). Mrs. Hamilton serves on the selection committee for the Revelli Composition Contest Committee and is currently Vice President of the Kappa Zeta Chapter of the Phi Beta Mu Bandmasters Fraternity. She was the recipient of the O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Teaching Award and was a finalist for the Coconino County Teacher of the Year.
