Clinic Synopsis:

The US Airforce Airmen of Note will perform selections of new jazz music submitted by exhibiting publishers.

Richard Dunscomb - Biographical Information

Dick Dunscomb is one of the leading authorities in the field of jazz music and music education. He has been recognized nationally and internationally as a guest conductor, author, adjudicator, clinician and consultant. The International Association of Jazz Educators elected Dunscomb to its Hall of Fame. The Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra clinic, awarded Dunscomb the prestigious Medal of Honor and named him a Midwest Clinic Legend. He was the North American Coordinator for the Montreux (Switzerland) International Jazz Festival for 18 years. His most recent publications include, with Dr. Willie Hill, Jr. "Jazz Pedagogy": The Jazz Educator’s Handbook and Resource Guide, a publication designed to provide a foundation and structure to plan and implement a successful jazz program, "Jazz Zone"…the beginning, a jazz band method, and "Jazz Zone Together" an innovative online series of interviews with leading jazz icons. He is also the co-founder with Michele Fernandez of the new jazz service “Your Jazz Education Connection.” Currently Professor Emeritus, Dunscomb was the former Chair of the Music Department at Columbia College Chicago, the nation’s premiere visual, and performing, media and communications arts’ college located in Chicago, Illinois. He is Vice President of the board of directors for the Midwest Clinic, the largest annual event for instrumental music in Chicago, Illinois with more than 17,000 participants. He is an educational clinician for Conn-Selmer.

Chief Master Sergeant Brian MacDonald - Biographical Information

Chief Master Sgt. Brian MacDonald is the lead trumpeter and Flight Chief of The Airmen of Note, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, his career in the Air Force began in 1999. After graduating from Nova High School in 1991, MacDonald began his studies at Broward Community College where he was a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators National Community College Jazz Band in 1993 and 1995. In 1999, he graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Music degree in performance. MacDonald has performed with the Woody Herman Band, the Maynard Ferguson Band and the Glenn Miller Band. Additionally, he has made numerous appearances on national television with KC and the Sunshine Band. His teachers include Jeff Kaye, Gil Johnson, Bobby Shew and Roger Ingram. While in the military, MacDonald has been featured on the Airmen of Note's 50th and 60th anniversary concerts, the recreation of the Glenn Miller Orchestra tour to Europe and Turkey, Operation Desert Greetings tour to CENTCOM, and has performed at the Detroit, San Jose and Elkhart jazz festivals.
