Music Parent Session

Clinic Synopsis:

Parents play a critical role in not only a music program’s success but also in that of the profession. Spend a few minutes with the incomparable “Dr. Tim” as he says ‘Thank You’ to all parents for their incredible dedication to their children and music education. Additionally, some special guests will stop by to share information about how to secure college scholarships in music (even non-majors!), parents’ roles in music programs, and much more. Open to any music parent attending the conference.

Tim Lautzenheiser - Biographical Information

Tim Lautzenheiser is a well-known name in the music education world as a teacher, clinician, author, composer, consultant, adjudicator, and, above all, a trusted friend to anyone interested in working with young people in developing a desire for excellence. His career involves ten years of successful college band directing at Northern Michigan University, the University of Missouri, and New Mexico State University. During this time Tim developed highly acclaimed groups in all areas of the instrumental and vocal field. In 1981 he created Attitude Concepts for Today, an organization designed to manage the many requests for workshops, seminars, and convention speaking engagements focusing on the area of positive attitude and effective leadership training.  Tim also is the Senior Vice President of Education for Conn-Selmer, Tim’s books, produced by G.I.A. Publications, The Art of Successful Teaching and The Joy of Inspired Teaching, are best-sellers in the music profession. He is also co-author of Hal Leonard’s popular band method, Essential Elements. Tim is a graduate of Ball State University and the University of Alabama. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Midwest Clinic, the Western International Band Clinic and the American Band College.  He presently an adjunct faculty member at Butler University.  

David Vandewalker - Biographical Information

Dr. David W. Vandewalker has served as the Coordinator of Performing Arts for the Fulton County Schools in Atlanta and band director at Georgia State University and Harrison High School (GA). Bands under his instruction have performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Bands of America Regional Championships, BOA Grand National Finals and at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference. Dr. Vandewalker currently is the executive director for the Servant Leadership Association for Music. Dr. Vandewalker is a recipient of the Sudler Flag of Honor, ten-NBA Citation of Excellence Awards, three National Wind Band Honors Awards, and is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association. David and Pamela reside in Marietta, GA where she serves over 800 children in music each week.
