This session will address many strategies to help set up your band classroom for a successful year. While the middle school band classroom will be the primary focus, these strategies can also be applied to orchestra classrooms. A QR code with clinic materials and resources will be provided to attendees at the end of the clinic.
Aaron Rex
- Biographical Information
Aaron Rex joined the Mason City Schools band team in 2020. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Kent State University and Master of Music Education from Bowling Green State University. Aaron currently serves as one of the beginning band directors at Mason Intermediate School. Before transitioning to Mason Intermediate School for the 2025-2026 school year, Aaron served as the band team lead at Mason Middle School, where he team taught all concert bands and jazz bands. During his tenure at Mason Middle School, the Symphonic Winds were invited to perform at the OMEA Professional Development Conference in 2022 and 2025, and received 3rd place in the youth/school band division of the American Prize in Band Performance for 2025. Aaron has also served on the director team for the William Mason High School Marching Band, a perennial Bands of America Grand National Championship Finalist. Prior to coming to Mason, Aaron served as Director of Bands for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools and Jackson City Schools in Ohio, where students and ensembles under his direction consistently earned "Superior" ratings and were invited to perform at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Professional Development Conference in 2020 and 2017. Aaron has been named a Semifinalist for both the Music & Arts Music Educator of the Year and the Grammy Music Educator Awards. In addition to teaching, Aaron has served in various leadership roles for OMEA and ASBDA, directs the University of Cincinnati Community Band, and is a sought-after clinician and honor band conductor.
