Clinic Synopsis:

This clinic session will explore legal issues surrounding affiliated school booster organizations in the United States. Topics include organization and responsibility of the parents, directors and administration; necessary filings; student accounts; vicarious liability for parent actions; and sovereign immunity. Perfect for directors, especially those in their first five years, college students, and administrators.

Barry Morgan - Biographical Information

Barry E. Morgan is a native of Cobb County, Georgia, and graduated from North Cobb High School in 1972. Barry received his Bachelor of Music Education from Georgia State University in 1976. In 1987, Barry graduated Summa Cum Laude from the John Marshall Law School in Atlanta. In 1976, he began a 12-year career as a high school band director in Cobb County Georgia, serving Wills, North Cobb, and Sprayberry. Barry has served as a marching band judge across the southeast since 1978. From 1988 until 1992, Barry served as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting narcotics and organized crime cases. Barry was the Chief Assistant Solicitor General for Cobb State Court from 1992 until 1998. On March 4, 1998, Governor Zell Miller appointed Barry as the Solicitor General for Cobb County, and he was re-elected to that position six times. After retiring on December 31, 2022 as Solicitor General, Barry went to work in four different part-time jobs. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Troy and Auburn Universities in their Music Industry programs. On January 3, 2023, Barry began working for the Cobb County School District as a Student Disciplinary Hearing Officer. On February 1, Barry will serve as a part-time Magistrate Judge in the Cobb County Magistrate Court.

Samuel Hodson - Biographical Information

Sam Hodson is a partner in the Indianapolis office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister. He practices in the Business & Finance and Insolvency & Restructuring practice groups. Sam has been recognized by peer review organizations including Indiana Super Lawyer since 2010 in bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, Best Lawyers in America since 2012 in banking and finance, insolvency and reorganization, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights and tax controversy and Martindale Hubble since 2002. Best Lawyers recognized him as the Indianapolis market Lawyer of the Year in 2016 for Tax Litigation and Controversy, in 2017 for Bankruptcy Litigation and in 2018 for Banking and Finance. He is certified in business bankruptcy by the American Board of Certification and serves as a director on the ABC board. His education includes: Bachelor of Arts, Political Science, Indiana University; Master of Business Administration, Finance, Indiana University Kelly School of Business; and Doctor of Jurisprudence, Indiana University, McKinney School of Law. Sam serves on the boards of: The Midwest Clinic; Music for All; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana; The Indiana Association for Corporate Renewal and the Indiana University Paralegal ABA Certification Advisory Committee.
