Clinic Synopsis:

Drawing on my 35 years of teaching experience, this clinic shares practical strategies for sustaining success in music education. Focusing on attitude, vision, organization, standards, and routines, it offers tools to support individual and ensemble growth and turn effective daily teaching habits into career success and longevity.

Larry Doran - Biographical Information

Larry Doran is in his 35th year as a music educator, including the past 30 years as Director of Bands at Midlothian High School. A native of New Castle, Pennsylvania, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Penn State University and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan. An accomplished percussionist, Mr. Doran has performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Opera, Texas Ballet Theater, and Dallas Winds. At Midlothian High School, he directs the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Band while overseeing the instrumental music department. Under his leadership, Midlothian ensembles have performed at the Western International Band Clinic, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the MENC National Conference, and the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic. The Midlothian High School band program will be a Spotlight Performing Ensemble in a clinic at the TMEA Convention in February 2027. The Panther Regiment has appeared at the Texas State Marching Contest three times, and the Midlothian High School Wind Ensemble has twice been a Texas Honor Band finalist. The program has earned the Sudler Flag of Honor and National Winner recognition multiple times from the Foundation for Music Education for excellence in both concert band and jazz.Mr. Doran is an active adjudicator and clinician and a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He and his wife, Sherry, reside in Ovilla, Texas.
