Performer Bio Synopsis

The Broken Arrow Band program was founded in 1929 and over the years has developed a tradition of musical excellence. Broken Arrow’s band program has produced numerous state champion jazz ensembles, winter guards, percussion ensembles and an abundance of district and state superior- rated solos and chamber ensembles. In 2014, the Broken Arrow Wind Ensemble made its inaugural concert appearance in New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall. The Broken Arrow Wind Ensemble performed at the prestigious Midwest Clinic’s International Band & Orchestra Conference in Chicago in December of 2015. Broken Arrow’s marching band, The Pride of Broken Arrow, is a consistent finalist and Grand Champion at numerous Bands of America Regional Championships. The Pride of Broken Arrow is honored to have been named the Bands of America Fan Favorite at two Grand National Championships and the Esprit de Corps recipient in 1998 and 2010. Broken Arrow is a 13-time Grand National Finalist and is the 2006, 2011, and 2015 Bands of America Grand National Champion. The Broken Arrow Indoor Percussion program began in 2015, and in it's second year of competition, won the 2016 WGI Dallas Regional (Percussion- Scholastic Open) as well as the 2016 WGI Mid-South Regional (Percussion- Scholastic World). The Broken Arrow HS Percussion Ensemble rehearses daily throughout the school-year, and has been invited to perform at the 70th Annual Midwest Clinic International Band & Orchestra Conference.

Conductor's Bio

Adam Wiencken is the Percussion Specialist for Broken Arrow Public Schools in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. As Director of Percussion and Battery Arranger for the Pride of Broken Arrow Marching Band, the ensemble is a consistent Bands of America (BOA) Regional Champion and Grand National Finalist. The Pride of Broken Arrow was the BOA Grand National Runner-Up in 2012 and 2014, and was the 2014 BOA Grand National Class AAAA Champion. In 2011 and 2015 The Pride of Broken Arrow was named the Bands of America Grand National Champion. As Director of Broken Arrow High School Indoor Percussion, the program has received high accolades in its first two years of competition, most recently winning the 2016 WGI Dallas Regional in Scholastic-Open and the 2016 WGI Mid-South Regional Championship in Scholastic-World. In December of 2016, the Broken Arrow High School Percussion Ensemble will perform at the 70th Annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Adam has previously served on the percussion staff at The Cadets from 2013-2016; in 2013, The Cadets were awarded the Drum Corps International (DCI) Fred Sanford Award for High Percussion Performance. Adam has also held instructional positions at the Santa Clara Vanguard, Troopers, and Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps. Adam is an alumnus of the Madison Scouts and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Adam received his Bachelor's at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 2010. Throughout his studies at Indiana, Adam studied with John Tafoya, Kevin Bobo, Steve Houghton, and Craig Hetrick. Adam is an active percussion arranger for various ensembles throughout the country, representing groups in Oklahoma, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Tennessee, and Texas. In addition, he serves as an adjudicator for multiple indoor percussion and marching band circuits throughout the United States. Adam is an educational artist for Innovative Percussion, Inc., MEINL Percussion, and Remo Drumheads.
