Conductor's Bio

Kathryn Greene is natively from Nappanee, Indiana and comes from a large musical family. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio in 2001, followed by a year of private music study in Luxembourg at the Conservatoire de Musique d’Esch-sur-Alzette. Ms. Greene’s career began teaching at the Franklin County Community School District in Indiana before moving to Las Vegas in 2006. Kathryn’s Suzuki violin training began and ended at four years old due to her strong will and refusal to play without her bear. In sixth grade she began Trumpet lessons as a student of Gerry Knipfel and toured twice in Europe with his student groups. She was also a member of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of East Central Indiana. At Miami of Ohio she was a member of the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. It was there she realized that her real interest was conducting and rehearsing of younger musicians. She has continued to work to enhance her abilities participating in workshops both in the United States and Europe. In spite of weak enrollment prior to her arrival, secondary knowledge of string instruments, and that the vast majority of students come to Cashman without any prior musical training, Cashman now is home to a growing, vibrant and successful orchestra program. Beginning with a focus on correct instrument setup, strong and diverse instruction to raise the technical level, music chosen to motivate and encourage the students, and through practice, practice, practice the students reach their full potential. Ms. Greene is also very proud of her ability to stop a class of fifty with her laser gimlet-eye. Outside of the classroom Ms. Greene enjoys gardening, finding home remodeling projects for her husband Don Rolfe, and cooking. Ms. Greene is highly anticipating the coming performance, it has been a long journey for the entire orchestra program and she is looking forward to all groups performances.
