Performer Bio Synopsis

The Spring High School Music Department has been recognized as a 2016 Grammy Signature School by the Grammy Foundation, one of 13 in the country given that designation. The band program has received 5 invitations to perform at The Midwest Clinic since 2008. The Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and several chamber ensembles performed as featured ensembles at the 2016 Music For All National Concert Festival in Indianapolis, and they along with The Spring HS Chorale, Varsity Women’s Choir, and Jazz Ensemble are all frequent National Winners in the Choice Music Events Mark of Excellence call for tapes. The Spring Band has qualified to the UIL Texas State Marching Contest at every opportunity since 1992. In recent years, chamber ensembles have reached the semi-finals of the Fischoff National Chamber Competition, and placed as finalists at the Coltman Chamber competition in Austin, Texas. The instrumental music curriculum includes four different levels of concert band with an optional Honors component for members of the Wind Ensemble. Other offerings include AP music theory, applied music, color guard, and winter guard. Students also participate in TMEA All-Region and All-State auditions, solo recitals, chamber music recitals, and occasional performances with the award winning Spring High School Choir. Spring High School is located in Spring, Texas, an unincorporated suburban community in Harris County, north of Houston. The Spring Independent School District has a diverse population of approximately 39,000 students. Performing arts education has traditionally been strong component in the curriculum of the Spring ISD.

Conductor's Bio

Gabe Musella, a graduate of Texas Tech University, has taught in Texas public schools for over 25 years. His bands have been awarded UIL Sweepstakes in 8 different varsity and non-varsity categories, and reached the finals of the TMEA Honor Band competition. Under his direction, the Lubbock-Cooper Symphonic Band and the Spring Wind Ensemble performed at the Music For All National Concert Festival. The Spring Wind Ensemble is a consistent National Winner in the CME Mark of Excellence call for tapes. They previously performed at Midwest in 2008. Mr. Musella is a published composer with music on prescribed lists in several states. He has recently enjoyed premieres at PASIC and TBA. He is currently TMEA Region 33 President, and a member of ASCAP, Phi Beta Mu, TMEA, TBA, TMAA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Mr. Musella enjoys an active schedule as an adjudicator and consultant throughout Texas.
