Music Energizes an Inner City School: Facing Reality with Vision

Clinic Synopsis:

What do you do when your school budget is zero and you are trying to maintain a music program--The reality of teaching in an inner-city school in today's budget crisis? We will discuss three important factors that bring success and sustainability to the school's music program: Forming partnerships, organizing parents, and empowering the student musicians.

Vincent Womack - Biographical Information

Vincent P. Womack is band director and department chair at the James A. Foshay Learning Center in Los Angeles, California. Prior to this position, he was director of instrumental and choral music at Canoga Park High School (CA). Under his direction, both programs have earned distinguished awards, superior marks, and critical acclaim. From Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Nokia Theater, to the Hollywood Bowl and the Cathedral of Our Lady, Mr. Womack has conducted ensembles in many of the finest venues in Los Angeles. He received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan, School of Music, and a master’s in Music Education from the University of Southern California Thornton, School of Music. He has taught instrumental methods and music education courses at USC and also served as assistant director of the USC Trojan Marching Band.
